Few specimens cause more consternation to general surgical pathologists than biopsies from inflammatory skin lesions. The terminology in dermatopathology can be arcane and histologic differences are often quite subtle. Similarly, clinicians get frustrated by reports that are overly general in nature and offer little insight into the diagnosis. If you find inflammatory dermatopathology impenetrable and are tired of calls from confused clinicians, this course may be for you.

This course will discuss common but still challenging inflammatory skin diseases while emphasizing a practical and systematic approach to the diagnosis. There will be special attention paid to practical tips for generation of effective reports.

A case study format will be used as a basis for the discussion. This course is appropriate for residents and practicing surgical pathologists. Registrants will be given access to virtual slides through the USCAP web site in advance of the meeting. All registrants will receive a detailed course syllabus and after the meeting registrants will receive web access to the PowerPoint presentation given at the Annual Meeting along with the text portion of the syllabus.

Upon completion of the course, the participants will be able to develop an effective approach to the diagnosis and reporting of inflammatory skin diseases relevant to routine surgical pathology practice.
