The ASC and PSC comply with ACGME requirements necessary for the granting of continuing medical education credits. The ASC and PSC solicited topics of interest from their membership at the Annual Scientific Meeting. The Scientific Program Committee discussed several potential topics and finalized the program in parallel with the ASC and PSC. In addition to numerous requests on diagnostic issues relating to cytomorphology, there was a huge interest for clinically-oriented lectures on molecular tools and targeted therapies.

The objectives of this program are: 1) Use the pancreas as an example to, highlight the diagnostic pitfalls on FNA of both solid and cystic lesions, and elaborate on the multi disciplinary approach, integrating clinical and radiologic information. 2) Discuss the role of ancillary tests, in particular, molecular techniques such as FISH. 3) Describe the role of today’s "Molecular Pathologist" in guiding targeted therapy decisions based on cytologic material. This session using the pancreas as an example, will highlight both diagnostic issues at the light microscopic level as well as highlight the emerging role of molecular tests and their role in personalized medicine.
