The Marriott Rivercenter and Riverwalk Hotels and the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center will be the site of all official USCAP meeting offerings. Since meetings are scheduled in all three venues, please check room locations listed in this program book carefully. Rivercenter, Riverwalk or Convention Center will be indicated for rooms listed. The General Registration Fee is required for admittance to any function of the Academy. This fee entitles you to attend the entire program on Monday and Tuesday as well as the poster sessions on Wednesday and all the evening Specialty Conferences. Additional fees are required for the Long Course, Special Courses and Short Courses. A single registration fee of $70 is required for admittance to any one, or all, of the Companion Meetings held on Saturday evening and Sunday. The Society for Pediatric Pathology is not a Companion Meeting. Registration for their meeting will be handled by the SPP Administrative office and will be located in the Plaza Foyer of the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

REFUND POLICY

Cancellations received prior to January 31, 2004 are subject to a $25 administrative charge. In addition, a $25 handling charge will be assessed for each short course cancelled if study materials were mailed.

Cancellations received after January 31, 2004 will be assessed an administrative charge of 25% of the total registration fee. No refunds will be made on cancellations received after the meeting has started and no refunds will be made until short course study materials have been returned.

EXHIBITS

Scientific and technical exhibits, book and journal displays will be in the Exhibit Hall B/ C. The exhibits are open from Monday, March 08 through Wednesday, March 10 the same hours as the poster sessions.

STOWELL-ORBISON, AUTOPSY and SURGICAL PATHOLOGY AWARDS FOR PATHOLOGISTS-IN-TRAINING
The Stowell-Orbison Awards were inaugurated to recognize scientific achievement by young pathologists while in training. The selections will be made by members of the Education Committee. The Association of Directors of Anatomic and Surgical Pathology and the USCAP jointly offer an award for the best scientific poster based on autopsy material and in general surgical pathology. The selection will be made by a panel of members of the ADASP. Posters eligible for these Awards will be on display on Monday morning. The awards will be presented during the Business Meeting on Tuesday, March 09.

BENJAMIN CASTLEMAN AWARD
The Benjamin Castleman Award is presented to a pathologist or a pathologist-in-training who has not yet reached the age of 40, for an outstanding paper in English. The subject may be on any topic in pathology based on human material. This award is administered by the Massachusetts General Hospital and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and financed by a fund established by former students, residents, and colleagues at the Massachusetts General Hospital in recognition of Dr. Castleman's valued contributions to human anatomic pathology. The award will be presented at the Business Meeting on Tuesday, March 09.

F. STEPHEN VOGEL AWARD
The F. Stephen Vogel Award was established by contributions to a fund created by his family and friends. It is awarded for an outstanding paper by a resident or fellow published in one of the Academy journals, Modern Pathology or Laboratory Investigation, during the preceding calendar year. The Awardee must: 1) be a member, in good standing, of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology for at least a year prior to receiving the award; 2) possess an M.D. or equivalent degree; and 3) be a pathology resident or fellow in an accredited training program at the time of the paper's acceptance for publication. Applicants should be the first author, or document a significant contribution to the paper. For papers with multiple authorship, only one author is eligible. The award will be presented at the Business Meeting on Tuesday, March 09.

CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION CREDITS
The United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. The Academy designates that a maximum of 55 hours in category 1 credit towards the AMA's Physicians Recognition Award is available during the annual meeting. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activities.

The Academy also jointly sponsors the programs of the following Companion Societies whose programs have been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the USCAP and these societies.

The meeting of the Society for Pediatric Pathology is separately accredited and is not included in this joint sponsorship.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THIS PROGRAM
The overall goal of this program is to provide participants with new information both at the investigative and applied practice level and to reinforce and update their knowledge in their area of interest and expertise. Concomitant with this is the introduction of topics of particular intellectual and professional interest to pathologists. This varied program is planned to meet the educational objectives that mature professionals can set for themselves and to serve the needs of pathologists of various levels of experience from residents and fellows to the well established and expert investigator and practitioner.

Specifically, to meet these goals and objectives, it provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of advances in the understanding of pathologic processes and for the presentation and critical evaluation of the application of scientific, technological and methodological advances.

CONVENTION MESSAGE CENTER
For the first time, a computerized Message Center will be utilized during the Annual Meeting. A bank of computers will be located adjacent to the USCAP Meeting Registration Desk. A list of registrants can be accessed through the USCAP website. During the meeting, messages can be left for them on this site by using the computer stations or by going to the USCAP website and clicking on Meeting Registrants.

MICROSCOPIC STUDY ROOM
The Microscopic Study Room, located in Rooms 8 and 15, will be open Sunday March 07 through Thursday, March 11 from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight, and Friday, March 12 from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for the purpose of studying the slides and protocols used in Specialty Conferences and Short Courses.

SPEAKER PREVIEW ROOM
Computers as well as slide projection equipment and slide trays will be available in the Speaker Preview Room so that individuals presenting papers, as well as faculty, may have the opportunity to review their materials and familiarize themselves with the projection equipment that will be used. The specific room location will be posted at the Meeting Registration Desk.

This room will be open Saturday, March 06 through Friday, March 12, from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm.

All Proffered Papers presented on Monday and Tuesday must utilize electronic/LCD/powerpoint projection. No 2x2 slide may be use for the presentation of scientific abstracts. Specific details on requirements will be sent to authors of scientific abstracts prior to the meeting.
