The course will be structured as a series of lecture style presentations, which will incorporate discussion of previously circulated case material. The topics covered will include: non-operative diagnosis, specifically fine needle aspiration cytology and needle core biopsy concentrating on safe reporting practice and avoidance of pitfalls.
Histological diagnosis of breast disease exploring specimen preparative methods, additional tests particularly immunocytochemistry and utilizing the course director's consultation practice experience to highlight common problems and unusual pitfalls will be discussed.
The final session will discuss provision of prognostic and predictive data for clinical patient management, reviewing the evidence, available methodologies, inclusion of prognostic and predictive data and routine reporting of breast carcinoma. This course is aimed at pathologists who have a breast pathology practice and residents wishing to gain additional experience in breast pathology.
