  • Drug-targeted Therapies and Predictive Prognosis: Changing Role of the Pathologist
Moderator: S. Terence Dunn, University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, OK

7:00  Introduction - S. Terence Dunn, University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, OK
7:15  Molecular Monitoring Strategies to Track Response to BCR—ABL Kinase Inhibitors in CML - Dan Jones, UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX
7:50  EGFR Testing in 2006: What Tumors, What Assays, and What to Report? - Jennifer L. Hunt, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, PA
8:25  Molecular Markers for Targeted Therapy and Prediction of Prognosis in Breast Cancer - Thomas M. Williams, University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Albuquerque, NM
The goals of the talks are as follows. Dr. Jones - to survey the different methodologies currently in use to monitor for imatinib resistance in CML samples. Dr. Hunt - to understand the different ways of measuring altered EGFR and the assays utilized; to know which tumors can be tested for EGFR, the clinical significance of the results, and which assays should be used for each tumor type. Dr. Williams - Review known and emerging biomarkers useful in predicting outcome in breast cancer.
