Informal polls of members were conducted to determine the broad area to be focussed upon. This topic represents an important area of diagnostic surgical pathology. Considerable new information has accumulated on the immunohistochemical and molecular aspects of both familial and sporadically occurring proliferative lesions of the adrenal gland and the paraganglia. A more widespread familiarity with these recent developments, their applicability in routine surgical pathology, along with a recognition of their diagnostic utility and pitfalls, is expected to enhance the standard of pathology practice and quality of medical care.
