This course is intended for practicing surgical pathologists and pathology residents and fellows. The objective of the course is to provide practical and theoretical knowledge to enable the participant to diagnose recently recognized neoplastic entities using the WHO 2004 classification and to resolve problems in differential diagnosis. Gross and microscopic morphology will be emphasized, as well as the use of immunohistochemistry in the diagnosis of renal neoplasms. Information will be presented about the genetic lesions which are characteristic of some of the tumors. Recently recognized and emerging entities (e.g. Xp11 translocation carcinomas, mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma, metanephric stromal tumor, post-neuroblastoma carcinoma, tubulocystic carcinoma, mixed epithelial and stromal tumor, and epithelioid angiomyolipoma) will be presented.

Case histories and a limited number of loan sets of microscopic slides will be available for advance mailing. All registrants will be mailed a CD of course materials after the meeting. A syllabus will be distributed at the time of the course.
