The topic was selected after discussions by the entire executive committe, based on the perceived needs of the Society members and those of the general USCAP membership. The new WHO monograph on “Tumours of the Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues” is expected to be published in September/October, 2008. It includes both an updated classification and updated diagnostic criteria for these neoplasms. Anyone practicing diagnostic hematopathology needs to be familiar with these changes. The objective of this symposium is to help familiarize the participants with the new 2008 WHO classification of hematopoietic and lymphoid neoplasms as well as to provide guidance on the practical aspects of using the classification.
