The theme was decided by the Board of Directors with input from the membership. Electron microscopy and cytogenetics have played a fundamental role in the most recent classification of renal neoplasms. This program will review the role of these adjunct diagnostic techniques in the current practice of pathology and will compare their contributions to pathogenesis and diagnosis contrasting it with immunohistochemistry. The objectives of this program include critically discussing the most recent classification of renal neoplasms and its clinical importance. The role of ancillary diagnostic techniques in the current evaluation and understanding of pathogenesis of renal tumors will be highlighted.
