Officers of the APSSSP considered new and challenging diagnoses in surgical pathology important, and selected topics particularly important to the practice and understanding of rapidly evolving areas in pathology, based upon the need to the update practicing pathologists knowledge base. Experts were selected by the program committee co-chairpersons. Several areas in surgical pathology are expanding rapidly and directly impact the practicing surgical pathologist attempting to guide the clinical care of patients. This program presents four particularly important, new and difficult topics, each presented by well recognized known experts. These topics include neuroendocrine tumors of the lung, new diagnoses in prostate pathology, microsatellite instability in colonic neoplasia, and triple negative breast carcinomas.
