The Curriculum Committee of the CAPconsiders the list of past offerings, the current and evolving state of anatomic pathology, the needs of the target audience, and expert opinion in selecting the topic for the 2009 education program. The purpose of the symposium is to address quality assurance and error reduction in several aspects of anatomic pathology that continue to be problematic for practicing pathologists. At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to: 1) Compare and contrast different approaches to QA initiatives, from systems-based initiatives to specific programs in addressing common problems; 2) Apply the principals of quality, patient safety, and error reduction to specific areas within cytopathology and surgical pathology; 3) Describe the patient safety risks and possible errors in immunohistochemical and molecular assays.
