Milton J Finegold MD, Texas Children’s Hospital; Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX and Stephen A. Geller, MD, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and UCLA School of Medicine, Los Angeles, CA

Using 12 to 15 cases from their extensive practices, the presenters will review common and challenging forms of hepatic neoplasia in children and adults. The epidemiological, clinical, and radiologic features characteristics of each entity, the best manner of obtaining, processing and studying diverse tissue samples, the use of techniques ancillary to routine gross and microscopic examination, and the differential diagnostic considerations will be discussed. Examples of potentially confusing non-neoplastic and benign neoplastic lesions and of metastatic malignancies will be considered. For selected tumor types, newly acquired molecular genetic data will be presented. Current treatment protocols and options will also be described.

This course is designed for general pathologists, surgical, GI and pediatric pathology fellows, residents. Pre-registrants will receive a website address where they can view in advance brief clinical history, diagnostic imaging studies, gross and microscopic appearances of cases, permitting independent study and providing the opportunity for interactive discussion.
