The NASHNP solicited topics of interest from current and previous officers as well as select members of the NASHNP. Several potential topics were discussed and topics selected were chosen in agreement with the chair of the scientific program committee. Improving diagnoses of head and neck cancers, updates on emerging critical therapeutic/diagnostic issues, as well as reporting of cancers were of high interest to NASHNP membership as well as the larger pathology community and are the goals of this symposium. The NASHNP membership is focused on the dissemination of best practices to reduce interpretation errors and to improve quality and reporting of diagnoses.

Our needs assessment process was based on evaluation of current literature, the recent publication of the AJCC Cancer Staging Handbook 7th edition and consultation with selected members and officers of our Society.

The NASHNP is ver excited about the 2010 program, one that we are confident is in keeping with the quality expected of Companion Societies, and one that we feel will appeal to a broad spectrum of pathologists in all practice settings. We will evaluate effectiveness by monitoring attendance and tracking the scope and breadth of questions and the evaluations of each speaker.
