The Arthur Purdy Stout Society of surgical pathology officers meet annually. One of the topics of discussion is the following year’s USCAP companion meeting content. The officers considered new and challenging diagnoses in surgical pathology an important topic and selected topics particularly important to the practice and understanding of rapidly evolving areas in pathology. Officers discussed potential topics which have not been covered well in prior meetings with input from other USCAP members.

Practicing members of the USCAP community often have little experience with diseases of the pancreas, pituitary, parathyroid, placenta, and nonneoplastic pulmonary disease. There are many recent advances in diagnosis and treatment of lesions in these organs but each is uncommon such that they are seldom covered in a forum for surgical pathologists and thus most pathologists receive only minimal instruction in these topics.

The purpose of the 2010 Arthur Purdy Stout Society program is to allow practicing pathologists to be better equipped to diagnose lesions of the pancreas, pituitary, parathyroid, placenta, and non-neoplastic pulmonary parenchyma. |
