Because they are not part of the formal medical or scientific curriculum, the skills required to orchestrate these complex tasks must be acquired “on the fly,” and gathered from multiple sources. This year’s Special Course will address critical issues in establishing a research career in an academic pathology department, be it as a principal investigator or a collaborator. A distinguished panel of experts will provide guidance in defining a research focus, navigating the recruitment process, obtaining research funding and salary support, and staying on track for promotion.
