A world-renowned Neuropathologist with research in areas as varied as neoplasia and radiation biology. His early studies included the medical effects of lasers for the Department of Defense with Drs. Lorenz Zimmerman and Elson Helwig. He was instrumental in acquiring the Yakovlev-Haleem Collection of serially sectioned brains from Harvard University. He coauthored more than 80 scientific publications and was on the Editorial Boards of Neurology, Journal of Neuropathology and Experimental Neurology, and the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Became the First Executive Director of the American Registry of Pathology (1980-1982). President of the American Association of Neuropathologist (1966); Project Secretary of the International Society of Neuropathology (1970-1978); President of the 7th International Congress of Neuropathology (1978) / Archivist of the International Society of Neuropathology (1980-1990). Secretary-General of the 11th International Congress of the IAP (1976); International Secretary of the IAP (1978-1982). In 1962 created a course in Neuropathology at the AFIP, which continues to this day. Collaborator for the international reference Center for Histopathological Nomenclature and Classification of Central Nervous System Tumors of the World Health Organization (1972-1976).
