The USCAP is dedicated to the advancement of pathology by dissemination of knowledge through a large number of educational offerings at our annual spring, summer and winter meetings. It is one of the oldest pathology associations in North America and has a rich historical heritage (being founded by Drs. William Welch, William Osler, Maude Abbott, William MacCallum and James Carroll). The USCAP/IAP had its Centennial celebration in 2006.
 | The Annual Meeting has by far the largest attendance of physician-pathologists of any meeting in the world.
 | At the USCAP meetings, you will be able to meet and interact with a large number of world renowned pathologists on a person-to-person basis. 20% of the attendees at our annual Spring meeting are pathologists from outside of North America, giving a true international flavor to our meeting. Over 5,500 pathologists and scientists worldwide contribute to our annual programs.
 | The USCAP continues to be a vibrant society with over 2400 cutting-edge scientific abstracts submitted by investigators from 450 academic centers throughout the world for our annual Spring meeting. You are now able to search and retrieve those abstracts electronically by topic, disease, technology and author on our website. The USCAP co-sponsors 26 Companion Societies which participate in the annual Spring meeting and represent the major subspecialties in pathology.
 | The USCAP website (www.uscap.org) is now receiving 3-7 million hits/month and has 1,900 free and complete educational programs (66 short courses, several years of specialty conferences and companion society presentations) as well as the scientific abstracts presented at the spring meeting for the last 3 years. Up to 22,000 individual pathologists in 85 countries partake of our offerings.
 | The USCAP publishes two major scientific pathology journals - Modern Pathology and Laboratory Investigation - among the very top journals in the field. Nature Publishing Group, the world's leading scientific publisher, began publishing these journals in January 2004. NPG's global reach and premier web presence is key to ensuring that the journals meet the goals of excellence set for them. Both are print as well as online publications dedicated to providing high quality information at the investigative and applied practice level.
 | The USCAP has had steady growth and has a current membership of over 10,500 pathologists, making it the largest of the International Academy of Pathology's 54 worldwide divisions.
 | Studies have shown that well over 60% of the practicing pathologist's time is involved in surgical pathology, cytopathology and organ-based pathology (i.e., anatomic pathology). This is one of the major strengths of the USCAP's educational activities.
 | Diagnostic Pathology, the USCAP's summer week-long update and review course offering CME and SAM, brings expert educators to review major organ systems and diseases. Registrants receive a CD containing 3000 images of tables, LM, IP; almost a gigabyte of information, and a handout of over 1100 pages from the 14 lecturers. An audience response system will be used.
 | Diagnostic Cytopathology, a three-day winter course offering CME and SAM, will provide updated pragmatic problem-solving knowledge for practicing cytopathologists and anatomic pathologists. Registrants will receive a CD-rom of illustrative images and a comprehensive syllabus for each topic. An audience response system will be used.
 | Practical Pathology Seminars, a three-day spring course offering CME and SAM, is designed to provide updated, pragmatic, problem-solving information for practicing anatomic pathologists. CD and syllabus will be available for each topic and an audience response system will be used.
 | Registration for the annual spring meeting, for the summer course, and the cost of our journals are considerably reduced for members, making membership a real financial value as well.
 | Anatomic Pathology Electronic Case Series (APECS) - real world, peer-reviewed cases in a dynamic, virtual technological environment that allows subscribers to learn about current trends and developments in the classification and prognosis of disease, and the appropriate selection and interpretation of ancillary tests in diagnostic evaluations. Accessible anytime, anywhere in the world from any internet connected computer, so CME/SAM credits can be earned on the go as personal schedules allow.
