2011 Honor Roll of Donors

A Tradition of Giving
Carrying on the heritage of charitable giving, the USCAP formally established its Foundation earlier
this year. This means that the USCAP Foundation is now fully operational with a Board of Directors
and fully positioned to receive and acknowledge charitable contributions.

And, while a tradition of giving has always been present at the Academy, the newly formed Foundation
is poised to carry on this tradition and help create greater support to enhance educational and
research opportunities in pathology.

Our Mission
The USCAP Foundation exists to further the goals of the Academy by broadening the base of
support for programs that will benefit the field of anatomic pathology.

What Do We Support?
As an extension of the overall mission of the USCAP, charitable funds are being raised for any of the following purposes:
- Continuing professional education for members of the Academy, including web-based learning opportunities

- Scholarship assistance, travel funds, educational materials, and/or web-based search and learning opportunities for USCAP members and other pathologists from developing countries

- Scholarship funds provided to encourage medical students to enter the specialty

Opportunities for Giving
Fred Silva Legacy Fund
Dr. Fred Silva, former USCAP-EVP, retired from the Academy in the summer of 2011. This marks a distinctive tenure of 12 years
of inspiring and expert leadership, taking the USCAP to historic levels in membership, educational offerings, meeting attendance and so many more
incredible innovations. Therefore, we would have introduced the "Fred Silva Legacy Fund" in his honor, which will reside in the USCAP Foundation.

Underserved Communities Program
Distribution of Educational materials to underserved areas globally
Short course materials will be distributed after conclusion of the course's cycle at the USCAP
meeting. Costs to be defrayed included production and shipping costs to the recipient IAP division
members. Enhancement of our existing program will permit the USCAP to play an increasing and
appropriate role in Global Pathology education.

Electronic Access to Educational Materials
Creation and Elaboration of Electronic Media
It is clear that all pathologists benefit increasingly from the availability of electronic
information sources. To that end, we have created the "Knowledge Hub" where educational
materials are provided via our website at no cost to pathologists worldwide. In order to ensure our
independence as a provider of educational materials, we require suitable funding and thus encourage
our members to contribute support to this basic activity.

This endeavor is expensive and requires urgent attention to such efforts as electronic access to
digitized slides, from our Specialty Conferences and, after their conclusion at the annual meeting,
Short Course slides. Development of expanded electronic education for USCAP members and IAP member
information presents a substantial financial challenge to the Academy. Through these efforts we
will also be contributing to the proper diagnoses and health of individuals continentally and
throughout the world — a service of global importance!

Unrestricted Academy Fund
For those members who wish to provide broad-based Academy support, the Academy provides this
Endowment Fund. The endowment earnings from this fund will be utilized by the Council of the USCAP
to target areas of need as they arise, thus providing our Academy with the responsiveness required
in today's rapidly changing clinical, academic and educational milieu including Junior Member
recruitment and recognition.

Named Endowment Fund
A Named Endowment Fund may be designated for any of the Academy Program that the Member wishes to
support, subject to approval of the USCAP council. The minimum amount required to establish a Named
Endowment Fund is $25,000.

Ways to Give
Giving opportunities include, but are not limited to, Bequests, Memorials and Endowments, Charitable Trusts, Outright Gifts, Future Gifts and many
others specific to donors’ financial situations and interests. Contact the USCAP Foundation office for more information.
