Educational Objective

LAST PRESENTATION
Currently, urogenital complaints are among the most common problems encounter by family practitioners, gynecologists, and dermatologists. In response to the intricacy of vulvar disorders, the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease (ISSVD) was created to facilitate the exchange between clinicians and pathologists involved in the care of these patients. Recent classifications for inflammatory disorders and intraepithelial neoplasm have been proposed by this organization. In addition, in our personal experience, GYN skin biopsies are the most common source of intradepartmental consultation during dermatopathology sign-out. The format of the course is case presentation of 19 cases followed by discussion which includes the histologic differential diagnosis, pertinent immunohistochemistry and molecular diagnostics of the followings:

  1. inflammatory dermatoses,
  2. melanocytic lesions,
  3. squamous lesions,
  4. adnexal lesions, and
  5. soft tissue lesions. In addition, the terminology of the ISSVD classification over time will be discussed.

The course is directed to pathologists, dermatopathologists, and pathology trainees. Prior to the meeting, a comprehensive syllabus and virtual slides of these cases will be posted on USCAP website for review. . Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Give examples of the recent classifications for inflammatory disorders and intraepithelial neoplasms proposed by the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease (ISSVD); and
  2. Formulate differential diagnosis and render diagnosis of inflammatory disorders, squamous lesions, melanocytic lesions, and selected adnexal and soft tissue neoplasms.
