Renal Disease Caused by Monoclonal Gammopathy

Educational Objective

Monoclonal gammopathy is a common clinical entity that may involve the kidney in a variety of ways. Recognizing the various clinical manifestations as well as patterns of renal involvement is essential for appropriate management of these complex patients. It is the goal of this session to familiarize practicing pathologists who encounter medical renal biopsies with the various manifestations of monoclonal gammopathies within the kidney. These topics were chosen by the Program committee of the Renal Pathology Society and approved by the board of directors of the Renal Pathology Society. The program committee is composed of Joseph Gaut (Chair), Samih Nasr, Alton 'Brad' Farris, and Carmen Avila-Casado. This topic is aimed at practicing pathologists who encounter medical renal biopsies as part of their daily practice. Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the clinical work-up and treatment of patients with monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance.
  2. Recognize the renal manifestations of amyloidosis.
  3. Describe the pathologic findings of Randall-type MIDD and light chain tubulopathy.
  4. Recognize the various forms of glomerulonephritis associated with monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance.

Session Credits: CME = 3 / SAMs = N/A
