Topical Advances and Applications in Soft Tissue Pathology

Educational Objective

The symposium theme and content is selected by the President with input from the Society’s executive officers of the International Society of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology. The agenda has been designed to meet the educational needs of general surgical pathologists as well as bone and soft tissue tumor subspecialists who are involved in the management of patients with mesenchymal neoplasms. Accumulating discoveries of the genomic and transcriptomic mechanisms in soft tissue tumors with corresponding developments in therapy continue to expand the role of the surgical pathologist in the multidisciplinary care of patients with these neoplasms. In this companion meeting, new developments as well as current principles of molecular and surgical pathology in soft tissue tumors and their application to the clinical management of these neoplasms including recognition of morphologic variants with specific genetic changes will be emphasized. Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Recognize recent developments in genomic mechanisms in soft tissue tumors.
  • Describe the role of biomarkers in the diagnostic classification, prognostication, and management of soft tissue tumors.
  • Associate morphologic variants with specific genetic changes
